When you arrive, make sure you check out our Welcome Board! If this is your pet’s first visit, their name will be displayed with a special welcome. Our Client Services Representatives will greet you and your pet and check you in. They may hand you a Welcome Form to fill out, which will verify all of the information we have on file. While the Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians are preparing to see your pet, you are welcome to sit with them in our lobby which includes calming water features and fun, interactive, and informational components! We strongly encourage all clients to come early to their appointments by about 5-10 minutes, especially when bringing updated records or if your pet is currently not feeling well.

Our clinic values our client’s experiences and our client care team at the front desk is always ready and willing to assist you. Our entire team values the experience that your pets will have with us too! Clients with cats are welcome to use our walled-off Cat Lobby to separate them from our other patients. During the exam, if your pet becomes fearful or anxious, our skilled team will be able to identify worsening signs of distress and recommend customized plans for you and your pet to ease their stress and make their future appointments happier!

Once every 6 months, it is advised that you should take your pet in for a check-up.  This will include a full physical exam, and may also include services such as vaccines and bloodwork. Our health care team will check your pet from head to tail and address any concerns you may have.

Please email any medical history you have for your pet before coming in for your appointment. You can send all records or pictures to Email: i[email protected] or Text: (203) 867-5181. It's best to keep a journal of your pet's health throughout their life, including behavioral changes.  If you have a journal like this, please share it with our team.  If not, please let us know everything that you think would be important for our veterinarians to hear. It is especially important to have documentation showing vaccination dates for regulatory and general healthcare purposes. Rabies Vaccinations are the only vaccine required by law for cats and dogs, so if your pet is already up to date on this, we will need to see the official Rabies Certificate.

Annual check-ups are a good time to update vaccines and tests. Make sure to bring in a fecal and urine sample once every 6-12 months for testing. If your pet is in need of preventatives for fleas, ticks, or heartworm, we will need to perform a tick and heartworm blood test yearly. We follow this best practice to ensure that our preventatives will be effective and that no further treatment is needed if tick-borne diseases or heartworm is detected. In some circumstances, our doctors will refer you to a specialist who has advanced expertise in areas such as Internal Medicine, Oncology, Radiology, etc. We have a full team of specialists at the Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine at 4 Devine Street in North Haven. That location also offers 24 hour Emergency services.
