Other Services

The Veterinary Wellness Center of New Haven offers a variety of other services. Please call us at (203) 867-5181 to inquire about any pet-related services now outlined on our website. We are always adding new pharmaceuticals, services, and abilities at our clinic and can help you schedule or find what you and your pet are in need of!

Below are a few other services we offer, explained...

1.) Fluorescent Light Therapy (Phovia)

VWCNH is very happy to be able to offer Fluorescent Light Therapy to our patients! Pets that have certain skin conditions, surgical incision sites, and wounds may qualify and benefit from fluorescent light therapy. The combination of light from the device and chromophore gel applied to the skin helps speed up cell regeneration and growth. This leads to a quicker, and more complete, healing time.

Please check out the Phovia Website for more information on how the fluorescent light therapy technology works and how it can help your pets heal faster. Ask your Veterinarian at your next appointment if you feel that Phovia may be a good option for your pet!

2.) Microchipping

Make sure your pet always gets home safely!

At the Veterinary Wellness Center we offer microchipping.  Using a needle, we insert a microchip the size of a grain of rice underneath your pet’s skin.  The HomeAgain®️ microchips that we use do not migrate, so they will stay in place throughout your pet’s life.

Each microchip has a unique code which identifies your pet.  If your pet goes missing, you simply alert HomeAgain®️ by calling their hotline, and they will begin notifying shelters and veterinarians within a 25 mile radius of where you lost your pet.  Most shelters and veterinarians are equipped with microchip scanners to scan your pet when it is found, and HomeAgain®️ will contact you with your pet’s location.

Microchips are great, because the tags on your pet’s collar can wear and become hard to read over time.  With a microchip, your pet will always be identifiable. As a bonus, with your microchip you will receive free use of the ASPCA Pet Poison Control Hotline for 1 year.  For more information, give us a call at 203-867-5181, or visit the HomeAgain®️ website: https://www.homeagain.com/microchipping.html

3.) Weight and Diet Services

At VWCNH, our Veterinarians and Staff believe that what your pet eats and maintaining a healthy weight are paramount to your pet having the longest and best quality of life. Our clinic carried multiple brands of Veterinary Prescription diets from Royal Canin, Purina, and Hill's to ensure that your pet has access to diets that can improve their well-being. These include diets specially designed for Urinary health, Kidney health, Diabetic management, Gastrointestinal health, Allergy management, Joint health, and Overweight management.

In addition to this, every pet that we examine will receive a Body Condition Score- which can help you identify your pet's current weight health and how to alter it, if necessary. We welcome our patients to visit us on a routine basis for complimentary weight-checks, so we can help you manage any changes to your pet's diet and weight at every step along the way. Patients that are put on a plan for weight loss, weight gain, or allergy trials will receive regular calls from experienced and educated Veterinary Technicians to consult with owners on their pet's journey.

4.) Allergy Testing and Management

Just like us, pets can develop allergies to almost anything at almost any time. Allergens can include environmental such as dust mites, grasses, and pollen. Allergens can also be diet related, such as certain proteins and vegetables. Allergy reactions in pets can range from gastrointestinal problems to skin problems to combinations of multiple problems amongst multiple body systems.

Managing allergies can be tricky and costly, but VWCNH is committed to helping you and your pet discover the best way to get your pet the relief they need. If you believe your pet may be suffering from allergies, please set up an appointment to see one of our amazing Veterinarians.

In addition to treatment and management of allergies, VWCNH offers allergy testing through Heska laboratories, a trusted reference laboratory. Once your pet has been tested, the laboratory can create a specific list of your pet's allergens to help our Veterinarians tailor their treatments and plans even more specifically to your pet's unique health. Heska Laboratory can even generate individual and unique medications that are made specifically for your pet to help them deal with their allergies.

5.) Titer Testing

We are proud to offer two forms of vaccination titering at our clinic for our patients...

- Distemper Vaccine (Da2pp) Titering

This vaccination titer is recommended and offered to all of our canine patients. When dogs are young pups, they receive up to 3 rounds of the Da2pp vaccination, providing protection against the diseases known as Distemper, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, and Adenovirus. Once a pup has received their recommended vaccines, performing a titer will help your Veterinarian determine if your dog has actually received the amount of antibody levels needed to protect them from these serious diseases.

Not only does titering this vaccine tell us if your dog is adequately protected, but it can also help your dog avoid unneeded vaccinations. Typically, Da2pp vaccinations are given on a yearly or every three-year schedule, but a titer test showing appropriate antibody levels can help your dog avoid vaccinations until they are needed.

- Rabies Vaccine Titering

Both Cats and Dogs can receive Rabies titering at VWCNH. We use an internationally recognized reference Laboratory in order to perform our Rabies titers, known as The Rabies Laboratory at Kansas State University. Rabies titers, similar to Da2pp titers, will tell us if your pet is adequately protected from the Rabies virus. This test is frequently required by certain nations around the world in order to travel there with your pets. If you are in need of a Rabies titer test for your pet, let our knowledgeable staff walk you through the process!
